For the USA and other countries that have year-end holiday seasons, the question of whether or not to take a break away from your business and your podcast show comes up as a choice — and more, like a dilemma.
As you will hear in this very brief audio episode, we discuss this issue as it has spawned in our world from an article that was mentioned in the podnews.net newsletter, in Share Your Genius by Kate Young.
By the time that this podcast episode publishes, the USA Thanksgiving holiday will have passed. This is generally a 4-day weekend event, where a lot people are into Turkey dinners, family reunions and lots of television and American football (both college and professional).
However, with the Christmas and New Year holidays approaching, we thought that this post and episode would make better sense AFTER the Thanksgiving weekend and before the Christmas-New Year weeks.
In the article by Kate Young, the following areas are discussed:
- Try something new — this could be a favorite for the startup and entrepreneur, as well as the podcaster. And Kate gives ideas of repurposing episodes, and changing formats of episodes in podcasts. For the business, it could be promoting a new deliverable such as a gift to loyal customers, or a campaign for end-of-year interest with different calls-to-action and ethical bribes.
- For the entrepreneur: Let your listeners and customers know about a planned absence, and how you can be reached with any questions, concerns, suggestions, etc. Your loyal followers and possible prospects will be grateful for you making yourself available on certain days and certain hours during the day. This can show them that you are available to chat, or to talk, or to review anything with them. This may strengthen the relationship with a prospect and turn the potential lead into a real customer in your sales funnel.
- For podcasters, announcing a planned absence allows them to rest from expectations of your show, or giving them a few more weeks to decide whether to buy or not from your offers and offerings (if you are monetizing your podcast show in your business).
As Kate Young states: “The bottom line is, you’re not going to lose your community by taking a week or two off. Trying out one of our approaches is a great way to switch things up while making a lasting impact on your listeners.” And the same goes for your leads, suspects, prospects, customers and loyal partners of your business.
