In this episode, we comment on an article by Michael Kitces that was posted in the kitces.com/blog site that is promoted by Ben Krueger of cashflowmarketing.com. The title of the article is “Launching A compliance-ready podcast to enhance your digital marketing. “
In what is really an executive summary, Michael Kitces delivers the following ideas:
(1) The attraction for intimate-formats like podcasting has risen with the virus crisis recently;
(2) However, advisors in the finance industry do face compliance issues with podcasting. And he describes what the issues may be in the compliance arena.
(3) Michael describes some suggestions by Ben Krueger: “In this guest post, Ben Krueger – Founder of Cashflow Podcasting – discusses steps that advisors can take to work with their compliance teams and to set up their own podcast episodes. The three key steps that can help advisors streamline the approval process of their podcast proposals with their compliance departments include: establishing podcast goals that aim to provide value through educating and supporting a clearly identified target audience; developing a good working relationship with the compliance team members who will be involved in reviewing the podcast and taking measures to be proactive on what they need while keeping communication channels open and clear; and creating content that complies with regulatory requirements (e.g., avoiding testimonials, endorsements, unsubstantiated claims, etc.), and then reviewing and documenting all content produced.”
(4) These suggestions carry with them recommendations for creating audio podcasts, with transcripts, from processes that will be adhering to compliant-ready issues.
(5) The key objective is spelled out in the final part of the executive summary: “compliance requirements should not keep advisors from producing an effective podcast program that will help to educate their clients and grow their business.”
