For a podcaster or an entrepreneur or startup, the “winter mindset” is a pattern and worry that can creep into the best of minds. Here, we discuss what it is and possibly how to avoid this pattern before it sets in.
This idea was promoted in mid-December by an email from Sean Stewart so that you can get excited (or worried) and then join a webinar which will then sell you entry into a program that supposedly will lead you to financial success with “5 steps to 6-figures” in income in 2020. Does this sound familiar?
However, we are NOT promoting this webinar, but merely discussing the idea of a “winter mindset” that may creep into the spirit of the more recently launched podcasters or the startup that is in its initial stages.
For the entrepreneur, hardships and uphill battles are the norm. For the recently-launched podcaster, the hopes of a quick start and fast road to riches through monetization may be just a bit too optimistic. And this mindset lends itself to entering the focus of the business at this time of the holidays.
So, just what is the “winter mindset”?
In the email that promoted this concept and webinar, it stated “The “Winter mindset” is an unconscious pattern where people start worrying that they basically won’t survive the “Harsh Winter”. This causes them to fear that money and clients have dried up, assume they are “unsafe”, and start in motion a wave of scarcity energy that derails their focus to start the new year.”
It seems that this type of mindset could have had its beginnings in the Dark Ages — and if you let it get hold of your focus, then your business and your podcast could be in the Dark Ages of the podosphere or entrepreneurship. The “gloom and doom” feature of the times may have you think that the scarcity of new clients or the slowdown of your business or the lack of growth of your podcast listeners and subscribers is caused by the times, and that the future may look bleak.
But actually, if you believe in planning for end-of-year during the holidays, this could be a time of positive thinking, positive projections and positive re-energizing of your spirit. Yes, you should have had some funds in your budget that allowed for such a slowdown during these times. And if you did, then you can survive to the next year and really put a good plan into action to increase your listeners, grow your podcast audience and increase your sales and promotions for your business.
As the email states: “In fact due to “The Winter Mindset” (that others are also caught in), this is a great time to remind/inspire people that their future is VERY BRIGHT and their dreams are more than possible! And then position yourself as the coach or service provider to help them create that future!”
This makes great sense if you are in the business of coaching or teaching others — if not, then consider YOURSELF as the recipient of such coaching from yourself, and then go about planning to create your own future with a positive attitude and realistic plans (because your initial plans may have been too over-optimistic and exaggerated within your scope). And then the email will make sense that this coming year will either make or break you in the area of success.
Now, have I felt this way during the initial stages of my entrepreneurial business and my podcasts? Of course, yes.
But I had put into place plans to get to the next level, increase my downloads and subscribers, learn how to launch offers, products and other revenue-stream-generating ideas and programs. I had been too busy during the times by creating these programs and products that I did not feel the “winter mindset” — rather, I had the promotions and forecasts for the positive plans that I was creating. And I was able to put together a small budget to cover the dry weeks until the business started to grow the fruits of my labor.
And this did work.
By LOOKING PAST AND BEYOND the mindset views, I was able to provide the hustle and the environment in which I made alliances, formed joint ventures, met new comrades in both the podosphere and the business community and joined several groups (through meetups, etc.) that helped me to see the strengths and benefits that I offered (much like a mastermind group). This then gave me more inspiration and it helped to spawn a NEW VISION of forward-thinking and positive movement as a “go-getter” and noted entrepreneur. This was accomplished and my goals for the launch of the podcast and business products were successful — although the times were rough in the initial stages. But the mentality that I had created assisted me in looking forward and promoting what I had created — both in podcasting and in the entrepreneurship. And finally, the rewards came by the success in growing my audience, becoming a thought leaders and the initial sales of my products.
As the email states, there is a great possibility that you can “stop sabotaging your own results and finally thrive” in your environment. And this is something that many entrepreneurs will confirm for you — that it can happen, as long as you don’t believe the stories of those trying to sell you both packages and webinars that promote guaranteed success in 30 days or 90 days. Just like with any other program or product or offering in the business world, the “blood, sweat and tears” of success can finally pay off if your plans and expectations are realistic and not based on an immediate rags-to-riches platform.
Now, I did not sit in on this webinar (I had attended too many such webinars that did not meet up to the hype), but the CONCEPT of the “winter mindset” was something that I wanted to share.
And most of all, it is the recently-launched podcasters or the recent entrepreneurs who can use these suggestions most of all. The quality is PATIENCE, PLANNING and PROMOTION for your success. And if you do hear any podcasts that interview entrepreneurs, you will hear that almost every one of them had to go through this “path of fire” or what can be referred to as a “rite of passage” in order to get to a point where the business is doing fine and growing and where the podcast show is also striving toward success.
We hope that your podcast and your business will be able to bypass this “winter mindset” and replace it with a “bright future mindset” where you realize that your hard work and great content will be keys to your success and profitability.
Thank you for your attention.
