In this episode of The Struggling Biz podcast show, we deliver a discussion about how entrepreneurships, small businesses and startups have a new beginning after the pandemic or sham-demic crisis of 2020 — and how these businesses now have to consider different ways of starting, of gaining business, of protocols and practices that are new and not like the pre-2020 environment.
So what resources are available and relevant for the aspiring entrepreneur or startup at the present time that can help in creating a business in the post-pandemic world with its phony “great reset?”
Of all the thousands of web sites, programs, training tools and resources on the internet for coaching the new and aspiring creators of small businesses, which can be ones that now relate to the modern world and can be helpful (and not just shades of the past that do not relate currently)?
For instance, if you go to the podcast that is called “How to start a startup” with 20 episodes that were available since 2014, it may be that the chapters and lectures that were distributed on iTunes for free as audio episodes are not entirely relevant to the present day of 2021 and further. So, do you look for another podcast show that can be more helpful?
Perhaps the Lean Startup Method may be the way to go — or so you think. And you then go to the Podcast show called Lean Startup with all of its 296 episodes since 2013. Now, will you count on these episodes of coaching be correct and relevant for you? Well, they may not be…not any more.
So, perhaps the best tutorials and training and podcast shows may be those that are being recently published with the theme of the post-2020-pandemic world for creating and starting and nurturing a business that can become successful for the entrepreneur (and how many of them are there at this time?).
So, you may try to examine these resources and find out that the old content describing Business Plans and planning for marketing, promoting, sales, follow-up, lead generation, communication and organization for effectiveness may NOT be topics that have been traditionally treated in the past. Example: the topic of sales and marketing may now be confined to the world of Zoom calls or remote communication. And there are new processes, procedures and best practices to deal with these new ways for the entrepreneur to conduct business — including communication to the prospects, the marketing and promotion tactics and the follow-up and lead generation and analytics of the business activities.
So, how will you determine what to use and how to plan for becoming a success in the world of startup businesses?
One avenue that may be helpful is to learn from the best practices and success stories of other entrepreneurs — which also contain some stories of their bad times and rising above the problems.
For example, if you wish to become a professional podcaster where your business and revenues will come from activities in the podosphere, I would reach out to others who have had successful businesses over a long time (where you can listen to the good times and bad times, as well). In the case of professional podcasting, I would reach out to people like Dave Jackson from the School of Podcasting and Ask the Podcast Coach, for he has had 16 years of experience and has seen downfalls and has overcome them. He would have plenty of recommendations and advice which has come from experiences in this arena of small businesses.
In addition, I would also reach out to Evo Terra of Podcast Pontifications. Not only has he written some of the first books about Podcasting, but he has been a professional podcaster, educator, trainer, organizer — and has helped others to become professional podcasters for the past 17 years. Evo has learned to become a “disrupter” to interpret trends in the industry and has planned to enter these arenas with the motive to rise above the problems and become successful.
Now, for yourself, what are your ideas of the END IN MIND for which you want to begin? (Yes, this is one of the principles espoused by Dr. Steven Covey in his book and audiobook called “The Seven habits of highly effective people.” And where do you think you need to go and begin? And how can you plan to communicate with others that can help you understand lessons learned from experience? And what can you see as both success and pitfalls for your new entrance into the world of startups or small business? — remember, you have to take off your rose-colored glasses and see the world in REALITY as you prepare to enter a new environment for which the old conventional wisdom may not apply.
Well, we hope that you can plan for the future with good organizational tools and sharpen up your communication skills needed in this different environment so that you can succeed in this “new” landscape.
Thank you for your attention.
