11- Top legal mistakes made by startups and small business owners

In the rush to launch their company, many small business owners fail to perform due diligence to prevent legal mistakes that could later come back to haunt them.

As you will hear in this episode, we interview Matt Lyons, an attorney who has dealt with the issues (and mistakes) of small business owners, startups and entrepreneurs. Unfortunately he has had to perform “damage control” once the entrepreneur or startup gets into trouble by making a mistake or two that could have easily been avoided.

For your information, this episode is republished, with an update from the original interview, as well as a written release.

Not only the forming of the legal entity, but intellectual property issues and agreements with the founders of the firm are discussed in detail.

This interview resulted in a discussion after we had seen Matt present a topic of these top legal mistakes at an Entrepreneur conference in Austin, Texas. And you will hear some suggestions for the startup to get legal counsel prior to acting and forming your firm, because sometimes the labor of correcting one of the mistakes discussed will be more costly than investing the time and money up front.

For aspiring startups and small business owners, this discussion can hopefully save hours of frustration and time, as well as the high cost of “damage control”

Thank you for your attention, and we hope your startup will be free from legal issues as much as possible.
