123- Entrepreneur time-sucks vs revenue-generating activities

Struggling Biz

In this episode of The Struggling Biz, we deliver some content from a repurposed episode (of a prior podcast show called The Struggling Entrepreneur) that deals with a comparison of activities in the business day of the solo-preneur — especially those that are time-wasters (or “time-sucks”) versus the effective revenue-generating activities (or “money-makers”).

The original blog post from which the repurposed audio episode was made came from solo-e.com (and in which you can hear the author by name).

The 7 time-sucks appear to be:

  • working on your web site;
  • re-writing your signature talk
  • working on products you have not yet sold;
  • over-thinking things;
  • checking email every 15 minutes;
  • checking social media every 15 minutes;
  • the “shiny object” syndrome.

And the seven “money-makers” are activities that can help you become more effective in generating revenue:

  • 15 minutes of outbound calls
  • sales calls
  • speak in person on a teleseminar, webinar or speaking engagement;
  • work with clients on client projects;
  • delegate more to your team;
  • be decisive;
  • reward yourself for your success.

This also relates to the themes of EFFECTIVENESS VERSUS EFFICIENCY, which has been discussed in many areas of business education, training and seminars. One of these is the discussion by Steven Covey in his famous book called The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.

So, this evergreen content provides us with some food for thought for solo-preneurs. And we feel that every entrepreneur should reflect on this theme every year — especially during the strategy and planning time that a small business manager will spend.

Thank you for your attention.
