Here, we discuss dealing with negative feedback from an online environment and platform when you are a startup or small business. What happens when this occurs, and what would be some tips for the startup or entrepreneur when this happens. And I do deconstruct one such situation of negative feedback from my own experience in Podcasting.
My own situation occurred from a now podfaded podcast show that was called The Struggling Entrepreneur.
As you will hear in this audio episode, I had negative feedback from someone named Ann at SoCal when I had published my podcast show on Applel iTunes. I felt that the negative comments were the result of either jealousy from someone who could not cut it in podcasting, or else a competitor who wanted to damage my reputation and content, so that she could then gather more listeners from any dropoff that I had.
Now, in those days, I had myself delivered feedback to another podcaster who went on a 33-minute rant that was totally unprofessional. And, in his episode of The School of Podcasting, Dave Jackson discussed the pros and cons of delivering feedback — especially negative feedback or criticism. His episode was titled “Voicing your opinion.”
As you will hear in this audio episode, there can be several ways to deal with this feedback issue:
- Not have any feedback by ignoring any and all comments or closing comments from your blog site — if you have thick skin and do not want to deal with the frustration of addressing any feedback that is negative. Thus, you can avoid it; or
- Address the negativity by listening for the negative feedback from the social media and comment platforms; and then contacting the individual who gave the negative comments, criticism or feedback and try to resolve the issues amicably and in a positive manner. Thus, you can mitigate the damage; or
- Create a disaster recovery plan — and you can use the feedback-model discussed in this episode from the Manager Tools podcast, or you can use the methodology from the older course called The Customer from Integrity Systems.
If you decide to address any negative feedback (as was mentioned in this episode), then you should plan for any possible surprises, frustration, time, effort, energy and possible monies in order to fix the situation and continue.
Whatever your decision, we wish for you to have success in your startup and business, and to not have to deal with negative feedback.
