In this episode of The Struggling Biz, we discuss the concepts of tuning up and making your “marketing engine” help you to succeed in small business. These concepts are presented by John Jantsch in his latest book, The Ultimate Marketing Engine: 5 Steps to ridiculously consistent growth.
Now, I have known John Jantsch personally since 2010 and have followed him. He is a master of marketing and a noted author and thought leader in the area of small business marketing. I have also bought and read some books that he wrote several years ago called The Referral Engine and The Self-Reliant Entrepreneur. These are in addition to his pdf deliverable upon which he built his program called The Duct Tape Marketing Program — and it was called 7-Steps to Small Business Marketing Success.
At this time, I was interested to see what he promoted as a “marketing engine” in his latest book, The Ultimate Marketing Engine: 5 Steps to ridiculously consistent growth.
In fact, I took advantage of his offer to get the first 2 chapters of the book FREE as a pdf download to get a sample of it — and for me, the preface and the table of contents showed me that he was going to outline his 5 steps in detail to help entrepreneurs (like myself and possibly yourself).
In addition, he also offered FREE access to a library of resources that come as added value to the book. But what most impressed me was that anyone who ordered the book would also get FREE OF CHARGE the educational deliverable called The Marketing Engine Free Companion Course. In fact, the call-to-action for getting this course was quite impressive: “As part of a pre-order campaign we are giving away this 6 lesson companion course for the book with video training and worksheets and resources to help you apply each lesson. (a $99 value)”
So I investigated further and saw that this course had the following content:
- Lesson 1 — Mapping your customer’s journey
- Lesson 2 — Creating your first Customer Success Track
- Lesson 3 — Defining and narrowing your Ideal Customer Focus
- Lesson 4 — Creating a Core Message of Difference
- Lesson 5 — Developing your First Content Plan
- Lesson 6 — Scaling through your customer with Referrals
Now, having seen his other courses and read his material, I would suggest that new and aspiring entrepreneurs may want to consume the content of his book and his course material. I think that the concepts that he brings about are of value for today’s entrepreneur — i.e., they are NOT the outmoded concepts that have been taught to every business major and MBA student for the past 40 years (and I was one who got my MBA in 1977 and spent over 33 years in a marketing role with IBM to learn the “real world” aspects of marketing to customers in both the large customer environments and the small businesses in both PC marketing and software marketing).
I feel that John’s book and course content will reflect the current environment today for creating a successful marketing plan for your business and get your own “marketing engine” created and in tune.
I have currently downloaded the FREE first chapters of the book and have seen what the plan is for the rest of the content. They are:
- ONE — Tune the Engine—Step 0 and
- TWO — Where Your Best Customers Want to Go—Step 1.
Now, if you are a serious entrepreneur (and I consider myself still to be one), you might invest in purchasing the book and getting the free course. And I realize that I, too, must also invest in the TIME to consume the book and take the course and review the free resources that come with these. In this way, I can then try to put together a successful marketing plan to push my business further and make it more successful.
I sincerely hope that you obtain these free chapters from his book and review them. Consider, if you will, if your current marketing plan can tune your marketing engine to its potential in being successful with your customers, and then to meet and exceed your sales and revenue plan for this year and next.
Thank you for your attention.
