In this episode of The Struggling Biz, we discuss the topic of PERSONAL PRODUCTIVITY FOR THE ENTREPRENEUR or small business owner or startup.
Notice: we did not say “time management.” However, time management is really a part of personal productivity, where the end goals are:
- Accomplish more satisfactorily with excellence;
- …in less time
- …with better quality
- And with reduced stress.
In order to make this happen, we have to examine how we are doing things today, and we have to open our minds to IMPROVING our behaviors for the future in order to meet and exceed our objectives for good Personal Productivity. By forming habits and creating a repetitive use of them, we can be on the road to meet our objectives, as we stated them.
Some of the themes we will cover quickly in this episode are:
- Personal Productivity — what does that mean?
- What system can help the entrepreneur be “more productive” for the business, as well as personal life?
- What proven system can offer results?
- How does STRESS play a factor in reaching productive goals instead of “crisis management?”
- How to build lifelong skills in Productivity — HABIT.
Time-Linking(TM) and its benefits
You may think time-linking is ONLY for time-management improvement.
Notice: we did not say “time management” in this discussion. Managing your time is a side-benefit from personal productivity. However, time management is really a part of personal productivity — where your improvements add up to a more healthy lifestyle because of your better productivy. Remember, the end goals for personal productivity are:
- Accomplish more satisfactorily with excellence;
- …in less time
- …with better quality
- And with reduced stress.
And being able to manage your time is just one of the ways that you can improve for yourself and your business.
More on Time-Linking as key to personal productivity for Entrepreneurs: Improvement for success
However, personal productivity’s key is in the concept of time-linking, where processes are broken down into several key components of management and documentation (on either a hardcopy or electronic or digital system).
You may ask yourself where the tools for personal productivity improvement reside, or which tools or apps are available now for today’s entrepreneur?
Well, this system has been proven to work in both corporate America and private sector America and non-profits and small business since the 1970s. The initial paper-driven tools that were used years ago are no longer here, but your own creativity can help you to implement the processes we discussed so that you can create and incorporate those on your tools used in your digital environment. In other words, the proven processes and concepts still work in today’s environment.
In fact, I had used these tools today in my business discussion and update for a key project in my small business. And the digital tools were used — ones that I created from the original paper tools. And the results? Still the same — personal productivity that allows me to manage my business with reduced stress and where I am in total control. That is, no crisis management for me.
And, unfortunately, this is how the younger generation tends to act and react — dealing with crisis management, regardless of the digital devices that they have. They literally are drowning in a sea of information, but unable to manage it properly for their own personal productivity.
In the end, over time and with newer and repetitive habits, you will see an improvement in your productivity — especially in the use of your time — from 10 to 20 per cent (as was the average of results for the students who took my course, after 2 months).
Well, we hope that you can address the four key objectives for yourself in your business, so that you can do more in less time with better quality and reduced stress.
Thank you for your attention.
