In summary, the 4 ways to profit from your podcast are very simply described as:
- Be your own sponsor;
- Reverse-engineer your SEO (i.e., search engine optimization);
- Incentivize engagement with gamification;
- Know and understand your audience.
Now, to most entrepreneurs who are into podcasting, this list may seem a little oversimplified and very obvious. But we leave it to you, our listeners and audience, to determine if the details merit the value that is discussed and assumed to be delivered.
For this podcaster and entrepreneur, the obvious and simple is not really always so simple. For instance, in my experience, creating a product and offering it as an alternative revenue stream for creation of income is one of the most difficult tasks you may have. For it is NOT the creation of the offer, offering or product you may have that is difficult — rather, it is the creation of an OUTSTANDING offer, offering or product that is difficult. This is one where the audience recognizes the value of what you are describing and offering, and also moves to take action to your well-chosen CALL-TO-ACTION that will get results. And, once you get the outstanding offer, product or offering understood by the audience, then your listeners will enter your sales funnel and probably become customers. But these customers are those who should be cared for, nurtured and respected with follow-on VALUE that will prove to them that they made the right decision to buy. And this way, you can also become a problem-solver and solution-provider — well on your way to becoming a trusted advisor (for instance, in your next move, which may be a membership site) and finally a thought leader.
For there are many items that are created. But very few actually have an outstanding call-to-action or fremium model implemented that will drive the listener to become a customer, and then drive him to become a loyal fan.
